OK, so my husband keeps harping on the opportunities for 'blogging'. So, I will give it a try. In the meantime, I am eating imaginary salad with imaginary sauce, created by very REAL toddler. I am a Mom of Advanced Maternal Age....words that never entered the lexicon of my vocabulary until I traveled down the road traveled by scores of other Mama-wannabe-s.
Second course, TheLittleMonster (TLM) is serving me 'dip', to be eaten with a 'knife'. "Be careful with the knife, it's very expensive." When he parrots back things that I've, no doubt, said to him the power of my words jabs straight to my heart. We always 'know' that a parent has powerful influence over a little human's developing psyche....we just never knew how much. Sorry to digress, I am being 'interrupted' by TLM's constant offerings of "more coffee" (imaginary, with cream) and admonitions to "Drink your coffee, Mom."
There doesn't seem to be a lot of ways for us 'older' moms to connect, find information about being mom over 40, check out our concerns about breastfeeding while our friends are all in perimenopause, etc. Hopefully, this forum will create a nurturing, supportive community for those of blessed to get our wish for a family - no matter how late in life.
A little about me and the amazing life that found me. I live just outside a major metropolitan area, need to work for health benefits and food, not to mention the costs of housing, am a full-time parent to my almost 33 month old toddling son, whom I will refer to as TheLittleMonster (lovingly, of course). I am lucky enough to work part-time outside the home to get those health benefits, have a supportive husband who is self-employed with a fairly flexible schedule, and I have family and friends close by. TheLittleMonster (TLT) won't sleep in his own bed at night, is still breastfeeding morning and night, and is amazingly verbal.
Enough about me, I look forward to hearing what you have to say. Maybe we can share resources and our life-changing experiences as we travel together through middle-aged motherhood. Thanks for tuning in...Momma-AMA
